Kia Ora everyone
This day sheet is longer than usual as there is quite a bit to cover leading up to our regattas and summer camp. Please set aside 5-min to read this, as it contains important information for the next few months of rowing including this weekend’s regatta. Parent Help urgently needed for away trips We urgently need more parents for the following away trips. We need to have 5x parents on each trip who have completed the school volunteer process: · Summer camp – need 1 more · KR2 (NIRC) – need 1 more · NISSC – need 1 more (must be a male adult to meet school requirements) Please note that if we don’t have the required number of parents, then we will need to cancel the away trips where we are short of parents. If you are keen to volunteer then it is really important that you complete the school volunteer process below. This needs to be completed ASAP so school has time to process these applications before school closes for summer. Note that we also require a parent for those squads staying overnight on Rua trips. If we don’t have a parent that has gone through the volunteer process, then the squad's training will be cut short. Even if you can’t do the away trips, please consider completing the volunteer process so you can be the parent for Rua overnighters. School volunteer process Please complete the following 4 steps: 1. Submit a police check form – take the form and 2 forms of photo ID (drivers license & passport) to the school office for verification. 2. Read the OC Volunteer Safety Guidelines 3. Submit the OC Volunteer Agreement read and complete the last page. Photograph the last page, signed and send it to both Kylie - [email protected]; and Carolyn - [email protected] 4. Participate in the volunteer induction session. Online or in person, with invitations sent one week prior to the event. Tell Kylie & Carolyn that you need to be included in an induction training session. Documents are attached to this email. Note that Kylie leaves OC at the end of November, hence Carolyn should be included in your email. Rowing costs Please note that there will be an increase in fees associated with reimbursing coaches for their out-of-pocket expenses and meeting school’s away trip requirements for NISSC in particular. The committee will look to minimise costs where possible and arrange additional fund-raising events. OCRC remains one of the lowest cost options for school rowing. Safety Wellington Rowing Club (WRC) have produced a safety video which explains the safety requirements for rowing, and even stars some of our rowers. I encourage you to have a look via the following link. Wellington Rowing Club - Health & Safety Book Fair A special shout out for Ben and Jade Cartwright from the Ray White Johnsonville office for the book fair road signs. They organised the printing, installation and removal of the road signs, all at no cost to us. WRC Scholarship WRC have a scholarship available as follows for those interested. http://www.wellingtonrowing.org.nz/asset/downloadasset?id=cfa81474-3213-4349-bc00-5a5493a55d0c OCRC Committee Following the AGM the following people have volunteered to give their time to the OCRC committee. Their time and effort is truly appreciated. · Beks Henderson – Grants / Fundraising · Bladon Roe – Rower Representative · Brent Cooper – President · Chris Boyd – Health & Safety · Deidre Burke – Life Member · Greg Holden – Treasurer · Jason Theobald – Coach Representative · Marie Butel – School Liaison · Sharon Lundy – Secretary · Tanya Dunlop - Logistics · Terry McCarthy – Life Member Norton Cup Regatta The forecast is looking good for the regatta. Note that due to the cycle path construction project, there is almost no parking at North End. I highly recommend that you carpool, go early, and be prepared to park a long way away. Novice parents – please ensure your rowers take slides. Carrying boats over the rocks can be pretty sore on the feet. Training As a reminder from your coaches, it is really important to be at training on time, and to let your coach know on Heja if you will be late or won’t attend. Most trainings end with clothing, shoes or drink bottles being left behind. These can be collected from the lost property bin at the club, or better yet, check that you have all your gear.
