Special General Meeting Outcome
The resolution to amend the rules was unanimously agreed at the SGM last evening. I have attached an amended version of the club rules so you can see this in the broader context, but the new rule 2.2-2.4 reads: 2.2 The College recognises the Onslow College Rowing Club (“OCRC”) as the sole provider of College level representative rowing within the Onslow College community 2.3 Students must be members of OCRC from the beginning of the current rowing season, or be subject to rule 2.4, to be eligible to represent the college at regattas. No student rowing for another club may represent the college at regattas 2.4 New Students transferring to Onslow College after the start of the season or current students wishing to commence rowing after the start of the season, may apply to the Executive Committee for membership. The Executive Committee may, at its discretion, admit new members after the start of the season on a case by case basis There were seventeen present at the meeting (one of whom had two votes as they were the parent of two rowers). There were 16 eligible votes at the meeting. In addition, the Secretary received 10 proxy votes, but three were received after the "24 hour prior to meeting" deadline. There were 7 eligible proxy votes. The meeting voted unanimously in favour of the resolution (23 for, none against, no abstains). The new rule applies immediately and we will ensure prospective rowers are aware of this as we recruit for next season. Thanks to those members who attended or gave their proxy vote. The updated OCRC Constitution Rules v3.1 can be found on the Resources page. MAADI: The Maadi Cup runs from Sat 25th Mar to Sun 2nd Apr. Rowers need to be at school in travel uniform at 7am to load the bus - equipped with homework, enough gear for the week and home baking! SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING
A reminder about the Special General Meeting being held this week. It would be great to get as many people as we can to this meeting to vote on the proposed rule change. The proposed change is to bring the rules into line with other sporting codes and other rowing organisations. This proposal has the full support of the college Principal and rowing patron, Peter Leggat. The rule change is to ensure the long-term viability of the rowing programme within Onslow College by requiring membership of OCRC, thus ensuring membership recruitment and student participation is maximised. The rule will provide clarity on the route to take if students wish to compete for the school at regattas. We need to get this done prior to the end of season, so we can start next season with certainty. Quorum is 15 members – so one parent from each rowing family would be ideal! Date: Thursday 23rd March Time: 7.30pm Place: Onslow College student Centre NISSC SUCCESS Congratulations to all or our rowers on a very successful NISSC. There was lots of great racing from everyone and we finished the regatta as the top performing Wellington school on the medal points table. We achieved four A Finals, all of which received medal placings, five B Finals and two C Finals. If anyone has a spare toaster they could donate to OCRC, that would be appreciated. We have a couple that are on their last legs. Please contact Stephanie Clark. USE OF PROFESSIONAL PHOTOS Forwarding on a message from the Rowing Celebration photographer - you are welcome to use any of his photos from the Rowing Celebration facebook page for your own personal use but if you put them onto your own facebook page or other media such as Instgram, he would appreciate it if you could credit the photo to his name 'Rowing Celebration'. He also has a lot of other great photos that can be purchased form his website where he sorts them into school specific photos. Thank you. McLauchlan Shield
We had a great day on the Harbour on Saturday – super to see our crews out there competing and enjoying the sunshine in conditions – well done everyone! North Island Secondary Schools Championship: Crews are off to NISSC later this week. Details are: Travel up: Thurs 9th Mar - 7am for bus loading, 7.30am departure Return: Sun 12th Mar after the last race Girls please remember to bring baking. MAADI: The Maadi Cup event runs from Sat 25th Mar to Sun 2nd Apr. The Great Maadi Swap Maadi is fast approaching. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the largest school sports event in the southern hemisphere with over 2500 students taking part annually and crowds of up to 10,000 on finals day! While racing is the main purpose of the away event, there will be allocated quiet periods for supervised school study, potentially the opportunity for a crew outing if you have a quiet racing day, a celebration meal on the last night complete with dessert and movie and of course the great Maadi Swap Saturday finals day sees an impromptu gathering of rowers to swap rowing wear. It just spontaneously grows into this big crowd of haggling and bartering to vie for top swaps. The seniors have come up with a couple of Maadi tee designs that will be available for purchase this week. So, if you want a memento and one to swap, we'll be taking orders before we go to NISSC. We'll put the mock ups on the facebook page or email on Monday or Tuesday. If you don’t want your rower to swap their core uniform pieces let them know - and consider getting these cheap tees to barter! Maadi Homework Remember to find out from each of your subject teachers if there is work you should be doing over the summer tournament week. As mentioned, there will be allocated quiet periods for supervised school study. Tina will also be at Maadi for the full week if any assessments need to be done over the week. FINANCE UPDATE: Big thanks to everyone for their prompt payments throughout the season - it is much appreciated. The end of the 2016/2017 is fast approaching so here are a few "housekeeping" items: * Wellington regatta fees will be charged out shortly * Ruamahunga trips will be charged out when all trips have finished for the season * There are still some coach and equipment levies outstanding - if these could be paid as soon as possible that would be great * A final rower statement will be sent out when we have Ruamahunga and WRC regatta fees allocated Remember, please don't hesitate to contact Raewyn if you have any queries or issues regarding payments, as well as if you would like the current balance of your rower statement at any time. Raewyn SAVE THE DATE A final get together for all rowers, coaches and families is planned for the week after Maadi to mark the end of the our rowing season. This will be a brief gathering at school, more info to come. CONSIDER GETTING INVOLVED: If you think you might be interested in a committee role for next season, now is a good time to start thinking about it! Have a chat to one of the committee members or me if you want to find out more. |
