McLachlan Shield – Wellington Harbour 12 March 2016
Congratulations to all of our crews who rowed successfully in the McLachlan Shield yesterday – Wellington at its finest J We had some great results – which hopefully makes everyone very excited for NISSRC this coming weekend! Executive Committee The next Executive Committee meeting is on Thursday 24 March. If you have anything you would like the Committee to discuss then please let me know and I’ll put it on the agenda. North Island Secondary Schools Rowing Championships Just a reminder that crews will depart for Karapiro by bus at 7:30am on Weds 16 March – that’s this coming Weds. All rowers are required at school by 7am to help with loading. Also, if you have not yet paid your fees for NISSRC then please do so as soon as possible. The regatta fee is $420 this was due on Friday 11 March. Please pay this into the Onslow Rowing Account: 02 0500 0978726 83 If the cost is a problem for you or your family, please contact Raewyn Henderson: [email protected] End of season celebration We would like to round the season out in style, with a small gathering to thank our coaches, celebrate our rowers and acknowledge those amongst our senior rowers who are moving on. It got too difficult to find a time pre Maadi when everyone was available, so the date will now be Weds 13 April, shortly after our Maadi crews have returned home. We will meet at the Onslow College Student Centre from 5.30 – 7.30 in the evening. Please bring a plate to share. All OCRC alumni members are very welcome to attend. Key dates for March/ April:
Winter rowing season The Committee has already begun thinking about the 2016 Winter Rowing season and we are working to ensure that this gets off to a snappy start. I will provide another update after our next Committee meeting on 24 March. Note that the winter season usually starts after Queen’s Birthday weekend. Recruiting next season’s novices The Learn to Row programme generally begins in early August. We plan to run an active recruitment drive across Onslow College and its feeder-intermediate schools during the winter months. The Executive Committee will be setting up a sub-committee to manage this shortly after NISSRC. If you have any ideas or would like to be a part of this please let me know. No Day Sheet next week Because many of us will be at Karapiro next weekend, there won’t be a Day Sheet sent out on Sunday 20 March as usual. Instead, final Maadi selections will be announced via email from me by 23 March; and the next Day Sheet will be sent during the weekend of 26/27 March following our next Committee meeting. If you have any queries in the meantime, please feel free to email me. With all best wishes to all of our crews for the coming weekend!!!

Onslow Old Boys rowing in Rio!!
Joe Wright and Jamie Hunter have been selected to represent New Zealand at the Olympics. They join a select group of elite athletes from Onslow College who have represented their country at the highest level. The last rower from Onslow College to compete at the Olympics was Alec McLean in 1976. Our very best wishes go with Joe and Jamie as they head over to Rio to compete! Executive Committee The OCRC Executive Committee met on Tuesday 1 March. Key points of note from that meeting are covered below. Our next meeting is on Thursday 24 March. If you have anything you would like the Committee to discuss then please let me know and I’ll put it on the agenda. NISSRC fees In setting the fee for NISSC the overall costs for the season as a whole have been looked at. We have worked hard to try to keep costs as low as possible, which has been a challenge given our lower rower numbers funding fixed costs, e.g. buses. We have run a very tight ship this season as is evidenced by our season being at break-even point thus far. As a result, the NISSC budget has been set on a stand-alone basis. The cost for the 5 days away will be $420 per rower, and is due by 11 March. Please pay this into the Onslow Rowing Account. Rowers can update their account balance at any time through Raewyn Henderson. If the cost is a problem for you or your family, please contact Raewyn UPS Power Solutions sponsorship of the OCRC trailer We would like to thank UPS Power Solutions for their ongoing support of OCRC through sponsorship of the OCRC trailer. Following damage to the trailer earlier in the season it has been off the road for some time, so once it’s been re-painted it will proudly carry the UPS brand for one more season. If your business would like to look into sponsorship opportunities in association with the club then please let me know. We’d love to hear from you! Key dates for March/ April:
Confirmation of final qualifiers for Maadi Coaches will meet to confirm their recommendations for final qualifiers to attend the Maadi regatta in Twizel as soon as possible after the NISSRC regatta finishes on 21 March. Confirmation of final qualifiers will be sent out via email by me no later than Weds 23 March. End of season celebration We would like to round the season out in style, with a small gathering to thank our coaches, celebrate our rowers, acknowledge those amongst our senior rowers who are moving on, and wish those who are going on to compete at Maadi every success. We are still trying to pin down a date, but it’s likely to be an evening somewhere between NISSRC and Maadi – probably between 25 to 31 March. I’ll confirm the date in next week’s Day Sheet. We will meet at the Onslow College Student Centre, probably between 5.30 – 7.30 in the evening. Please bring a plate to share. Winter rowing season The Committee has already begun thinking about the 2016 Winter Rowing season and we are working to ensure that this gets off to a snappy start. Terry and Deidre have agreed to look for coaches who may be willing to manage the winter season for us, and we will report back to you once we have more details locked in. |
