NISSC
The NISSC trip departs this Wednesday 28th Feb with the regatta running from Friday 2nd Mar to Sunday 4th. This is the rowing season highlight and marks the end of season for most of our rowers. Nearly 2000 school students from schools all over the North Island will be competing in this regatta. Good luck to everyone, you have all worked very hard to get to this point. Remember to be at school at 7am on Wednesday, in your travel uniform, for bus loading and a departure at 7.30am. Everyone to bring a box of baking please. End of Season Celebration Each year we like to mark the end of the rowing season with an end of season celebration which also includes a ‘graduation’ ceremony for the senior rowers who have completed their final year of rowing. In this case we have a large senior cohort finishing their school rowing/coxing this year and we’d like all the club rowers, families and coaches to gather together to celebrate them as well as another successful season for OCRC. The event will be at the student centre at school on Thursday 12 April at 7pm. Could each family please bring a plate to contribute to a shared supper. Book-fair – We need your help! OCRC run one major fundraising effort each year and that is the Book-fair which runs in the middle of the year (date for this year TBC). This event contributes essential funds into the club’s budget and is specifically targeted at supporting our coaches. We don’t pay our coaching team, but do reimburse some of the costs they incur over the course of the season. The $6-8K raised by the book-fair annually allows us to do this to a reasonable level and to keep our rower coach levy down to a small contribution ($100 per rower this season). Deidre has been the lead on the book-fair for many years and had really gone above and beyond in the interests of our college rowers. This year she is looking to step away from that role and we need someone to step into the book-fair co-ordinator role. We are looking to form a small support team to ensure we maximise the opportunity that the book-fair presents. If you want to know more about this please have a chat to Deidre – she has promised to do a full handover to the team. We would like expressions of interest/volunteers for this ASAP – but before our 12 April get-together. Please email Olwyn. Club Nationals Regatta – wrap up The NZ Rowing Championships took place last week at Lake Karapiro and our Senior Girls stamped their mark on the regatta. Huge congratulations to Ella Greenslade who came away with 3 medals. A Bronze in the Mens Senior 8 which consisted of ex-NZ Elite rowers including our own coach Tufi and Onslow old boy and Olympian Jamie Hunter; a Silver in the Womens Novice 8 and a Gold in the Womens Novice 4. Ella coxed 19 races over the week including a Mens Premier 8 against the NZ Rowing Elite crews and NZ coxswains. She was noted by many of the Elite rowers as a very capable and competent coxswain. Alice Loretto competed in several club events and narrowly missed the broze medal in the highly competitive Womens Club 8. Constance Stirling and Olivia Clark competed in the Senior grade in 12 races and were generally the youngest rowers in their events competing against older and more experienced rowers. They achieved A finals for all their crew events and a B final for their singles. Well done to all of the Senior Girls. Photos There are photos from the season of various regattas, Rua trips and others on the website. Feel free to add your own as well. https://ocrowingclub.weebly.com/gallery.html
