It consists of our Under 18 rowers, and a number of Under 19 and Under 21 rowers from the wider WRC who are keen to row with us this season. We are aiming to develop a progression plan for our older rowers that will bridge the transition from year 13 to first and second year club rowing. Wellington Juniors Squad rowers will participate in all OCRC events along with all of our other OCRC rowers and helpers. Our first regatta for the season – Porirua Goodwill The Porirua Goodwill Regatta is scheduled for 15 October (8:30am-4:00pm), so please make sure you are available for this event. If you are not available then please let your coach know as soon as possible. Learn to Row Programme Our 2016 Learn to Row Programme has now concluded. Many thanks to all of our coaches and other volunteers who supported this programme during the 6 weeks prior to and during camp; and thanks also to Olwyn Crutchley and the parent helpers who supported the Learn to Row Camp during the first weekend of the school holidays. Our thanks go especially to Terry and Deidre, who have led the LTR programme for us from the initial recruitment drive in July through to the announcement of final squad and coaching configurations this evening. They have done an enormous amount of work for the Club in delivering such a successful programme, which has resulted in the recruitment of 12 new novice rowers this season. 2016/17 training programme and season regatta schedule This is now available on our website. Please note that the Ruamahanga training dates are provisional and do not intend to indicate that all squads will be training at the Ruamahanga on all dates shown. The Operations Committee is also exploring the option of training out of Petone more often, to reduce the total number of Ruamahanga trips required. OCRC Encore Book Fair A reminder that we will be having a second Book Fair on Sunday and Monday 16 and 17 October (note that that is Sun/ Mon; not Sat/ Sun) due to the very heavy rain that affected our sales quite significantly during our first Book Fair weekend in September. The Encore Book Fair will be at the Wharewaka like the last one was – please bring along your books, your family and friends and your curiosity! Grant funding secured – huge thanks to Donna Sherlock and Frances Booker The Committee would like to extend a very big thank you to Donna Sherlock and Frances Booker, whose hard work has secured OCRC a total of $14,000.00 in grant funding from the Hutt Mana Trust and the Pub Charity. This money is enough to enable us to buy a new Double this season, which is a fantastic result! Annual General Meeting A reminder that this will be held at 7pm in the Student Centre at Onslow College on Wednesday 19 October. Please mark this date in your diaries as we will need to vote on some changes to our OCRC Rules, and we will also need to elect a new Committee. Further details about the AGM will be sent out later this week. Fundraiser Quiz Night 20 November – 1841 Bar, Johnsonville Please save this date in your calendars as it will be one of our two major fundraisers for the year and will help get our rowers to some of the big regattas later in the season. We are starting the planning for this and the main thing we would like you to help with will be ticket sales, helpers on the night and raffle donations. We will send out details nearer the time, but meanwhile we would like to hear from you if you have contacts or a business that might be willing to donate goods or services for an auction that we can run on the night. We would also be interested in Rowing related memorabilia - especially if you can get us a signed ‘Bond and Murray’ cap or the like! Contact Steve Watters Sympathy For those who don’t yet know, Deidre’s father passed away on Saturday morning after having been unwell for some time. We have sent flowers to Deidre from the whole OCRC community, expressing our condolences for her loss. We send our fondest wishes Deidre and her family at this time.
