Kia Ora everyone
After a short break, we are back! Winter training is well underway for the experienced rowers who want to participate, bearing in mind that winter sport still takes priority. There are a lot of behind-the-scenes activities going on to get the new season underway, so thank you to everyone involved. We will be calling for more input soon to get the season off to a great start. Dates for your Diary · Sun 23 Jul – Exp rower trial · 25, 27 Jul – Yr 9 rowing recruitment at school · Sun 30 Jul – LTR student and parent meeting at school · Fri 4 Aug – LTR begins · 20th Aug – Book drop to school container · 16 – 17th Sept – Book Fair · 22-26th Sept - LTR camp · 23rd Sept – 8th Oct – T3 holidays · 25th Oct – OCRC AGM and Yr 13 farewell Trial for experienced rowers · Sun 23rd July, 3pm at WRC Coaches are looking forward to seeing you all at the trial. Jason and the coaches have outlined the trial details and rationale in a previous email, please refer to that. Please also get in contact with Jason or another coach if you have not yet been to a winter training session. It will have to be assumed that you do not wish to row for the upcoming season, if you have not made contact or do not attend the trial. Reminder of OCRC behaviours and values As previously mentioned in earlier emails. The coaches have come up with a list of behaviours that we want to see from all rowers this season. This will help create a safe and enjoyable environment, and a good culture from where you can achieve your rowing goals. · Contribute · Respect other people · Use positive language to each other · Be responsible for yourself · Listen when your coach is speaking · Look after equipment, e.g. boats, bus, accommodation · Training sessions are for training - have a good attitude · Come to training if you say that you will be coming · Be on time and organised · Be proactive when you arrive at training School volunteer process Onslow College has enhanced its volunteer process and requirements. We need a lot of parents for away trips each season and need to start the volunteer process now. In particular, there is only one more opportunity to do the school volunteer induction process in T3, which we need parents to attend – in person or via Teams. If you think you might want to volunteer for a regatta or camp or even overnight on a Rua trip, then please do the following 4 processes: 1. Submit a police check form – take the form and 2 forms of photo id to the school office for verification. 2. Read the OC Volunteer Safety Guidelines 3. Submit the OC Volunteer Agreement – read and complete the last page. Photograph the last page, signed and send it to Kylie. [email protected] 4. Participate in the volunteer induction session. There will be one run at the end of T3 (September). Induction is compulsory. Online or in person, with invitations sent one week prior to the event. Tell Kylie that you need to be included in the T3 invitation. Participating online is easy, it is only about 40 mins) Documents are attached to this email. Even if you think you might volunteer next season or for another sport, then do this process. School will be very strict on volunteers this season and we will not be allowed to take non-vetted parents on away trips and we cannot go on away trips without parent help. Thank you! IMPT: Please settle your last season OCRC fees ASAP Thank you to everyone who has paid your rowing fees to date. We still have a bit of a debt owing from last season’s rowing from several people. Can everyone please check your school accounts and settle your rowing fees from last season asap. The majority of families have paid, but to be fair on everyone in our group, everyone needs to pay their share for the trips that your rower has been on and for the OCRC fees. Other parents should not be expected to financially support people who don’t pay. Rowing is expensive enough Greatly appreciated, thank you! LTR LTR is kicking off from Friday 4th August. Unfortunately, we don’t have the opportunity to promote rowing in the Year 9 PE classes this year. But we do have a couple of lunchtime sessions, on 25th and 27th July.
