I hope everyone is keeping well and occupied! Such extraordinary times! A few notices to finish the season: MAADI CANCELLED Maadi is officially cancelled for 2020 along with a range of other rowing NZ events and of course a huge array of other sports and events throughout NZ planned for the near future. See this link for further details. https://www.rowingnz.kiwi/Story?Action=View&Story_id=702# OCRC ROWING EVENT CHANGES To clarify our pending rowing events (as advised by school):
We will be in touch prior to the start of the new season and will aim to have a beginning of season celebration, where we can then farewell our seniors. MAADI TEES Just a note on Maadi for crews that were to be heading there, we are currently in the process of un-doing bookings etc. The Tees did not go to production but they can be produced if still wanted. If anyone would still like to order, can you please reconfirm your order with Helen including the quantity. If we get enough, then we can confirm the order, otherwise it will be cancelled. THANK YOU'S On behalf of the OCRC committee, I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone for a fabulous 2020 rowing season. Thank you to our wonderful coaches: -Jason, Brent, Paul, Fin, Georgia, Jared, Jakob, Issac, Maggie, Georgia, Tina, Warwick, Terry & Deidre. As always, you give so much of your time and energy to our school rowing club. You serve as great role models to our students and their achievements and success are a credit to your skills, experience and nurturing. A huge thank you to you all. Thank you to the students: Our rowers are at the heart of everything that the club does. You are a fabulous group of students, there has been a great vibe to the group this year (I have personally enjoyed the bus trip and the camaraderie you show). You know how to work incredibly hard and also have a lot of fun together. Your representation of Onslow College is a credit to your work ethic and team spirit. Thank you students! Thank you to the parents: The rowing programme doesn't operate without the input and support from parents, so thank you to everyone contributing to the season - from helping at regattas and camps, running fundraisers and doing grants, doing a season role like first aid, subway lunches, cleaning kitchen gear, organising transport, being involved with the committee, transporting your students to trainings etc etc! Thank you parents! Noted thanks to Mike Woods for the Treasure role, Kristin Aitken for the Secretary role, to Matt Seymour and his book fair team, Mel Dingle for the grants, squad managers - Katrina Curry, Paula Hammond, Lynda Duncan, Ellie Lockhart and regatta and camp coordinators this season - Lynda Duncan, Marie Butel, Karen Forsyth, Victoria Bennett. Thank you to school: Thank you to school, to Sheena Millar, Principal and our Rowing Club Patron, to Penny Kinsella and to Kylie Summers, the school Sports Director, for your support, encouragement and facilitation of rowing functions. Thank you! BOOK FAIR Just one final plug for the book fair. This will be held in August. So even if you are unsure if you will come back for another season or you are a senior having finished rowing, please still help out with the book fair as your way of giving back to the sport and the community that has given so much to you. Thank you! Finally, Have a good break everyone, enjoy your winter sports and see you in winter training and at the book fair! (all optimistically hopefully!) OCRC DAY SHEET – 8 MARCH 2020
Kia Ora everyone A few notices to wrap up the end of the season regattas… Dates for your Diary
NISSC departure Departing this Wednesday 11th March. Be at school 7.30am in travel uniform for bus loading. Novices are on baking. Bring your own hand sanitiser if you have some at home. We only have a very limited supply and supermarkets have run out! Late school start after NISSC Due to the expected late return of the bus from NISSC on Sunday as usual, students are permitted to start school from Spell 3 on Monday 16th if wanted. This has been approved by the Principal. MAADI CUP 2020, Twizel If you want to keep up with the Maadi action while the rowers are away, then check out the maadi.co.nz website and watch the finals live https://maadi.co.nz/Category?Action=View&Category_id=42 End of season celebration Save the date:
Maadi Tees If anyone wants to buy a Maadi tee, then send your order to Helen Cooper. Cost is approx. $28 – tbc. Payment will be charged to your school account. Design as per the winning poll on the Rowing Facebook page.
Check website for sizes: Mens – https://www.nzuniforms.com/userfiles/SizingGuides/ASC/5001_FIT_GUIDE_.jpg Womens - https://www.ascolour.co.nz/4001-maple-tee.html OCRC Book fair The annual OCRC book fair will kick off again sometime mid-year, date tbc. This is our one major fundraiser for the season and contributes funds to coach reimbursement, equipment expenses and some rower funds which reduces the overall season cost for everyone. There is a well formulated process to run the book fair and everyone contributes to the event but we are also looking for new members for the book fair committee. No experience required and all ‘training’ provided. Please contact Matt Seymour: [email protected] Book collection for the book fair – May 23 As usual, we will collect the good left over books from the Ngaio book fair which provides a great source of stock for our own book fair later in the year. So save the afternoon of Sat May 23. We will need all hands on deck with parent cars to collect and transport the books to local storage. More details closer to the date. Payments Just a reminder that rowing fees are charged to your student account for payment. Please ensure to pay upcoming regatta fees when due and to square up any other payments before the end of the season. Thank you! Congratulations to ex Onslow rower Jamie Hindle-Daniels Congratulations to Jamie Hindle-Daniels, who was an OCRC rower from 2013 to 2017 and has been selected in the NZ Under 23 Men’s Quad to row at the Under 23 World Championships in Slovenia in August this year. Awesome achievement! Jamie has represented Wellington Rowing Club and it’s affiliates at the Central RPC for the past 2 years while studying at Canterbury University. Do not share drink bottles! Wash hands! Please do not share drink bottles or share eaten food. If you need a small bottle to take in the boat for a race, then use for e.g. 300ml bottle. Sharing a drink bottle with someone who is sick is the fastest way to ensure your boat is out of the race! With the coronavirus emerging in NZ, hand washing before eating is more important than ever. Nutrition The effect of diet on performance is significant. Know what to eat and when to eat it. See the Nutrition guidelines on the website: https://ocrowingclub.weebly.com/nutrition.html Rowit - http://rowit.nz/ This is a great site for parents to keep in touch with the live results while the students are away at regattas. View the Day Sheet for race events, times and results. Rowers can also check their race entries here. Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/groups/105369186474338/ New members and those not yet signed up, should ask to be added to the 'Onslow College Rowing' Facebook page. This is a good way of a keeping up with reminder notices for regatta trips and events, as well as photos and other things happening with the club. Finally, good luck to everyone for NISSC, you have all worked really hard to get to this point and for those heading off to Maadi in Twizel at the end of the month.
