Executive Committee
The OCRC Exec met on Sunday 28 August. The following are key points for you to note from that meeting: Learn to Row programme LTR Camp Learn to Row camp starts Fri 23rd Sept (7.30pm) to Tues 27th Sept (4pm) and is held at the Wanganui River Top 10 Holiday Camp. An information sheet will be sent out in the next week with all the details for camp. The camp provides an excellent opportunity to significantly develop rowing skills in a short period of time, in an environment conducive to good training as well as everyone having a lot of fun. LTR Camp paperwork Another form for membership of the Onslow College Rowing Club (OCRC), parental consent and health profile will also be issued soon. If you are attending LTR camp you must complete these forms. If you are not attending the LTR camp but want to continue with the rowing season, then you must complete these forms. LTR Camp parent help Thank you to everyone who offered to help at LTR camp. We now have enough parent help. However, you are more than welcome to make your own bookings to see what goes on. If you mention that you are with OCRC when you book then you will qualify for a discount on your accommodation costs. LTR regatta There is a regatta on the last day of the camp, with novice rowers mixing with more experienced rowers. Parents are encouraged to attend and see the great improvement the rowers have gained over the camp duration. OCRC Book Fair This is an important annual fundraiser for us. Last year we made over $8,000. The funds are used to help support our coaches in meeting their out-of-pocket expenses through the summer rowing season, so everyone’s support is needed. This year the Book Fair will be held from 10am to 3pm on both Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September at the Hui Room (beside the Karaka café which is right beside the WRC on Taranaki Street Wharf). All donations of books, CDs and DVDs gratefully received. Deidre Burke will be in touch directly over the coming weeks to keep you updated, but basic information about the Book Fair is set out below. If anyone has a mobile eftpos machine we could borrow please can you let Deidre know Annual General Meeting The OCRC Annual General Meeting will be held at 7pm in the Student Centre at Onslow College on Thursday 19 October. Please mark this date in your diaries as we will need to vote on some changes to our OCRC Rules, and we will also need to elect a new Committee. Our current Committee has been elected to hold office for one year, and the following Committee members have signalled that they are happy to remain for another term of office:
We will send out formal notice of the AGM and call for nominations in September – but please start giving some thought to whether you would like to serve on the Committee, or whether there are others you would like to nominate. Fundraiser Quiz Night 20 November – 1841 Bar, Johnsonville Please save this date in your calendars as it will be one of our two major fundraisers for the year and will help get our rowers to some of the big regattas later in the season. We are starting the planning for this and the main thing we would like you to help with will be ticket sales, helpers on the night and raffle donations. We will send out details nearer the time, but meanwhile we would like to hear from you if you have contacts or a business that might be willing to donate goods or services for an auction that we can run on the night. We would also be interested in Rowing related memorabilia - especially if you can get us a signed ‘Bond and Murray’ cap or the like! Contact Steve Watters Next Executive Committee meeting The Committee will meet again on 20 September. Please let me know if there is anything you would like the Committee to discuss.
