Kia Ora everyone
It has been a very busy summer, having accomplished two major Karaprio regattas, our summer camp and several Rua trips and not to mention the ramped up training schedule as we approach the serious end of the season. Dates for your Diary · 22/2, 29/2, 7/3 - Weekend Rua trips · Wed 11 – 15th Mar – NISSC, Cambridge · Sat 28th Mar – 5th Apr – Maadi Cup, Twizel · Tbc – end of season celebration Save the dates for Rua trainings There are likely Rua trainings all weekends prior to NISSC. So save the dates but your squad coach will reconfirm details on attendance. · 22-23 Feb · 29 Feb-1 Mar · 7-8 Mar Huge thanks to the coaches for your added commitment to get our rowers to peak performance for the finale season regattas. Payments Just a reminder that regatta and camp fees are charged to your student account for payment. However, there are a few miscellaneous payments sometimes required for payment directly to the OCRC account and this bank account number was changed a year ago from the previous account. Please use the following account number: BNZ 02-0506-0232829-000 1841 Raffle and NISSC bus funds Thank you rowers for your work contributing to the 1841 Raffle fundraising throughout the off season and to date. We now have $1400 to put towards the NISSC bus. This is an easy fund raising contribution that we are keen to continue throughout the coming year. So please ensure you do your rostered day even if you are undecided if you will continue with rowing for next season. It is a one-off half an hour’s effort before next season starts and if not continuing, then it is a nice send-off gift to the club! Thank you! Contact Katrina Curry if you need to change or confirm details: [email protected] OCRC Book fair The annual OCRC book fair will kick off again in Sept or October. This is our one major fundraiser for the season and contributes funds to coach reimbursement, equipment expenses and some rower funds which reduces the overall season cost for everyone. There is a well formulated process to run the book fair and everyone contributes to the event but we are also looking for new members for the book fair committee. No experience required and all ‘training’ provided. Please contact Matt Seymour: [email protected] WRC Survey All WRC members (rowers and coaches) should have received a survey. So fill it in if you can. It’s good to provide a school perspective. Thank you and farewell to our Uni coaches Our Uni coaches have now headed back to Uni. So thank you very much to Georgia (Waikato), Maggie (Canterbury) and Isaac (Otago) for your work and dedication to our Onslow students this season. We will see some of you at the upcoming regattas but all the best for your studies in the year ahead. Welcome to new rowers With the start of the new school year, we have 2 new rowers, to welcome into the OCRC squad. Franzi is an international student from Switzerland joining the senior girls squad as an experienced rower and Maya who has transferred from Marsden, has joined the novice girls squad. Also a belated welcome to Max and Teneka who joined the experienced squads during the season. So welcome to you all! Welcome to new committee members The OCRC committee has co-opted two new members onto the committee to replace Rachael Mora who stepped down recently with the withdrawal of Ben from rowing. Thank you to Rachael and family for the time and input you have given to Onslow rowing, hugely appreciated. And now welcome to Katrina Curry and Brent Cooper. Thank you for stepping up to the role. Please do not share drink bottles or share eaten food. If you need a small bottle to take in the boat for a race, then use for e.g. 250ml bottle. Sharing a drink bottle with someone who is sick is the fastest way to ensure your boat is out of the race! Nutrition The effect of diet on performance is significant. Know what to eat and when to eat it. See the Nutrition guidelines on the website: https://ocrowingclub.weebly.com/nutrition.html Rowit - http://rowit.nz/ This is a great site for parents to keep in touch with the live results while the students are away at regattas. View the Day Sheet for race events, times and results. Rowers can also check their race entries here. Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/groups/105369186474338/ New members and those not yet signed up, should ask to be added to the 'Onslow College Rowing' Facebook page. This is a good way of a keeping up with reminder notices for regatta trips and events, as well as photos and other things happening with the club. Finally, check out the website home page for future camp dates and good luck for NISSC! https://ocrowingclub.weebly.com/ Nga mihi Stephanie https://ocrowingclub.weebly.com/
