Merry Christmas Everyone
KR1 Wrap up It was fantastic to get up to KR1 and see our rowers in action and so many performing well! We had more finals than I can remember Onslow being in at this regatta and some notable performances. Especially pleased to see the U15 8 take third in that event – Onslow has not had an eight in the last couple of seasons – so to have two competing was awesome! Once again, the senior girls performed well and our senior boys 4 and Quad won their intermediate men’s events and placed third in the Double – a great start to the season for them. For a full round-up of results see the website: https://ocrowingclub.weebly.com/2017-18-regatta-results.html Once again, we had a great team of parent helpers and our coaches worked tirelessly to support the rowers – a huge thanks for this! Summer Camp Just a few reminders about summer camp which is from Saturday 6th to Thursday 11 January: Fees for this are due by 30 December into the Onslow rowing account please, with rower name as reference.
Grants help Thanks to Melanie Dingle for stepping up and volunteering to coordinate grants applications - once school re-opens we will be progressing these. Ex-Onslow Rower Drops in Ex-Onslow rower and former Olympian, Jamie Hunter dropped into the Senior boys training last week to say hi. Jamie rowed lightweight for NZ and then transformed into the pair where he rowed with Tom Murray last season before recently announcing his retirement. It was great for the boys to have an opportunity to meet him and he generously dropped off a pile of rowing gear – including some NZ representative unitards, that the boys have already been seen sporting out on the harbour 😊 Thanks to Tufi for lining this up! Looking forward to getting to know everyone at Summer Camp

KR1 XMAS REGATTA
The first Karapiro regatta is coming up: Departing Wed 13th Dec. 7am in Onslow quad, in travel uniform. Returning Sun 17th Dec. Thank you for paying the regatta fee and completing the consent forms – a quick turn around on these things is really appreciated. Remember to be at school 7am on Wed 13th Dec in your travel uniform (black trousers / shorts, OCRC polo and OCRC hoodie) ready to load the bus for a prompt departure. To note, the regatta coordinator is now Stephanie Clark not Frances Martin. Summer Camp The information sheet for Summer camp has now been issued and fees for this are due by 30th December ($355). Keith has also sent the consent form out on Survey Monkey and we really need these in within the next few days so we can complete the process ahead of school closing. I will be asking for assistance from the Girls and Experienced Boys parent cohort for some pre-camp food preparation in the next week. In addition to that, if you are handy in the kitchen and would like to assist with some of the meal bases (butter chicken, bolognaise etc) please give me a call as preparing these in advance cuts back the work at camp for parent helpers. We have a standard set of recipes and the costs of these ingredients are covered. Thank you to Maggie and family A big 'Thank you' to Maggie and her family for being part of Onslow Rowing and the Girls crew since her Novice season 3 years ago. Maggie's contribution in the Senior girl’s crew and to Onslow rowing has been invaluable and will be hugely missed as will Frances and Mike’s parent help contributions which have been very much appreciated. (Unfortunately, Maggie has an injury which doesn't permit her to continue rowing for this final season). Fundraising priorities and grants The Committee agreed that the following things were our priorities for fundraising/grants this year – and potentially into next:
Unfortunately, our application to Pelorus Trust for replacing the school ergs was not successful. With Maggie moving on from rowing we are looking for someone else to assist with grant applications as there are potentially other avenues for funding which we have not yet tried. If you are interested in assisting give myself or Stephanie Clark a call. Support for squad managers Our squad managers are a primary channel for club communications and sometimes this means a lot of email when there is an event (which is just about every weekend in the season). Please support them by meeting the deadlines for responses, as this will assist to keep the number of communications and reminders to a minimum. |
