Parents & Supporters at Camps and Regattas
Onslow College rowing squads are supported at camps and regattas by many enthusiastic parents and supporters. THANK YOU!
Parent Help
Parent help is essential in order to run the regattas and camps, and is always a lot of fun for the parent group on duty.
Each regatta and camp requires a Lead Co-ordinator to organise the off water logistics and prepare the necessary documentation. Another 4 or 5 parents are required for the parent help duties while away.
Parent help is essentially, bus parenting, grocery shopping, food prep, organising clean-ups, transport, ensuring rowers know their races, keeping the rowers and coaches fed, watered, sun protected and happy and healthy and to watch and cheer on the Onslow rowers - all the off water stuff. The coaches and rowers are responsible for on-water activities.
No experience is required and all 'training' is provided!
School Volunteer Process
If you want to be parent help on an away trip, you must complete the following process steps at least 4 weeks ahead of the trip or before school shuts for the year, so that police check forms are back in time.
1. Submit a police check form – take the form and 2 forms of photo id to the school office for verification.
2. Read the OC Volunteer Safety Guidelines
3. Submit the OC Volunteer Agreement – read and complete the last page. Photograph the last page, signed and send it to the sports office.
4. Participate in the volunteer induction session. Induction is compulsory. Online or in person, with invitations sent one week prior to the event. Email the sports office to say that you need to be included in the invitation.
See the end of this page for links to the forms:
Transport
Transport to the Lake Karapiro regattas in Cambridge is by bus. There is usually an extra day added prior to the Regatta for training which is always beneficial prep for the competition.
If parents wish to make alternative travel arrangements for their rower after the regatta, they must inform their coach and the Lead parent as a head count is done before leaving.
Transport to camps is by way of car pooling. This will be organised by Squad Managers prior to the event.
Supporters bring ...
Onslow College tent
The Onslow College tent is the base from which the rowers refuel, rest and support other Onslow College and WRC crews at away regattas. It is also a meeting point for the rowers, parents and supporters.
The boat park is for coaches and crews only. A race debrief occurs after each race before the rowers return back to the supporters’ tent.
