Executive Committee
The OCR Executive Committee met on Sunday last week. Key things to note from that meeting are set out below. If anyone would like a copy of the minutes please contact me. Finance report back and decisions made After discussion on a number of issues, the Committee agreed that:
Feedback from the convenors of both events was discussed and key learnings noted. Steph will update the Handbook to capture these so please do refer to the Handbook if you find yourself responsible for convening one of our away events. It has some really useful information in it! Health and Safety OCRC will appoint one of our coaches to act as Safety Officer, who will take responsibility for ensuring that all WRC water safety guidelines are complied with, and for overseeing safety standards during trainings and regattas throughout the season. We will advise who our new Safety Officer is when the coaches have had a chance to discuss this. Additional Ruamahanga training The Committee discussed the feasibility of individual squads determining their own additional training days at the Ruamahanga, on top of the training programme already agreed for the season. We also discussed whether the Friday/ Saturday only limitation should be re-visited as we get closer to the competitive end of the season. We agreed that it was great if individual squads wanted to exercise initiative in arranging their own training – but on the basis that:
Summer Camp 2017 and 2018 The dates for the next two summer camps have been agreed. These are:
Next Executive Committee meeting The Committee will meet again at 4pm on Monday 8 February. Please let me know if there is anything you would like the Committee to discuss. Key dates for February/ March:
KR 2 – Cambridge Town Cup Our rowers will be returning late on Sunday night. We will keep squad managers informed of their progress, and hopefully your rower will also be in contact with you directly to let you know when they are likely to be back at the school. Please be on time to collect rowers, and be prepared to help unload the bus and stow gear – our parent helpers will be in great need of a break!

Executive Committee
The first Executive Committee meeting for the year is this afternoon. I will report back on key matters in the Day Sheet next week. Cambridge Town Cup – KR 2 Many thanks to all those who have paid their fees for this regatta. A reminder that all rowers need to report in at Onslow College by 7:00am on Wednesday 27 January. Your rower will update you on their arrival time back at the college on the 31st, but this is likely to be late. NISSC Regatta Coordinator: Just a reminder to contact Steph Clark if you would like to parent help at the North Island Secondary Schools Rowing Championships in March, and organise the regatta as the Regatta Coordinator. NISSC is a 5 day commitment from Wed 16th Mar - Sun 20th Mar. Contact Steph if you want to know more about it. Wellington Rowing Club Andrew McCalman, Terry, Deidre and I met with the Wellington Rowing Club on Monday last week. The WRC are going to be going through a formal review during the winter and wanted to have an early discussion with each of their member clubs about our relationship with WRC, and areas where there could be scope to do things differently. WRC are looking for ways in which to build a greater sense of collegiality across all of their member schools, so that rowers feel a sense of allegiance both to the school clubs, and also to their "parent" club. Ideas mooted included the possibility of an Under 19s competition to provide a bridge for school-aged rowers who "age out" of the current school competition in their final year; and the possibility of developing some pan-club crews to perhaps compete regionally with similar crews. Other issues raised and discussed, but not resolved, related to access to space within the very limited WRC facilities, and the possibility of purchasing plant across clubs in order to generate and use resources more efficiently and cost-effectively across schools. Please note that we were brainstorming only, and some ideas may not see the light of day – but they’re an interesting indicator of the sorts of things that could be raised. As a part of their formal review, WRC will be contacting members at random to ask for their thoughts about the current state, and also ideas for the future. If you have any ideas and are not selected at random to contribute to the review, then please let either Andrew or I know and we will be happy to pass these on. Key dates for January/ February:
Happy New Year!
Welcome back – I hope everyone has had/ is having a safe and enjoyable summer break, and on behalf of the OCRC Committee wish you all a happy and successful year ahead. Especially on the water! Executive Committee The first Executive Committee meeting for the year will be on Sunday 24 January. Please let me know if you have any matters you would like to raise for the Committee’s consideration. Cambridge Town Cup – KR 2 The Information Sheet and Survey Monkey for KR 2 has now gone out. We have a very tight turn-around on this to meet the school’s requirements. Please can you complete the survey monkey by Tuesday 19 January at the latest. Fees for KR 2 are $395 per rower – these are due by 19 January and should be paid directly into the OCRC account. When you make electronic payments please put your name in as a reference. If the cost is a problem for you or your family, please contact Raewyn Henderson. If anyone can loan us a chilly bin for KR2, please let Stephanie Clark know. Thank you. NISSC Regatta Coordinator: If you would like to parent help at NISSC and organise the regatta as the Regatta Coordinator, then please get in touch with Stephanie Clark. We currently have the 4 required parent help but that includes Steph and Paul with Steph doing the regatta coordination. So, to spread the fun around a bit more, if someone else would like to be regatta coordinator, then Steph is happy to step aside and just be parent supporter!
