Rowers returning from KR 1
We are expecting our rowers to leave Karapiro at approximately 2pm on Tuesday afternoon. Taking into account stops along the way, that means they might be home as early as 10 – 11pm, but are likely to be home somewhere around mid-night. Olwyn will text squad managers as the journey progresses, and they will update you on timing. Please be at the school promptly, and be ready to help unload the bus when it arrives. Rowers and parents returning on the bus will be very tired and will need all the help they can get! Summer Camp The Information Sheet and Survey Monkey for Summer Camp has now gone out. We have a very tight turn-around on this to meet the school’s requirements. Please can you complete the survey monkey by Wednesday 16 December at the latest. Fees for Summer Camp are $420 per rower – these are due by 30 December and should be paid directly into the OCRC account. When you make electronic payments please put your name in as a reference. If the cost is a problem for you or your family, please contact Raewyn Henderson. Finance Statements of rower's accounts will be sent out within the next couple of weeks and these will highlight any outstanding items to be paid (e.g. coach levy, equipment levy, Ruamahunga), along with the now due Summer Camp fees. Fundraising - Star Wars Movie The rowers are currently running a movie fundraiser based on the much anticipated Star Wars movie coming out next week. Jared handed out numbered tickets to rowers on Tuesday morning– 2 per rower. The cost is $20 per ticket with $9 of that going into your rower’s account. Please make sure the tickets are sold. We have booked a 55 seat theatre. The movie is at 1pm on Monday 21 December at Light House Cuba, entrance from Wigan St. Please pay ASAP to: The Fundraising A/c with your rowers’ name & Star Wars as a reference. Communications over the Christmas period This is the last Day Sheet that will be sent out for this year. The next Day Sheet will be sent out on Sunday 3 January. Incident SH 2 Friday afternoon
As you will most probably have heard the Onslow boat trailer and a WRC single were damaged on Friday afternoon when the trailer was hit by a van on the Hutt Road on the way to Ruamahunga. The van had been travelling too fast, failed to stop for a car in front of it, hit that car flipping it onto its roof, and skewed round into the trailer before coming to rest horizontally across two lanes of traffic. No one was injured in the accident, probably because the trailer bore the brunt of the impact rather than the car. We are extremely grateful that the rowers, coach and parent involved are all safe. The damage to the trailer includes a bent axle, broken boat racks and impact damage down one side so unfortunately we were unable to carry on to the Ruamahunga and the trip was cancelled. We are working on a plan to get the trailer fixed and also to determine the best way to get boats to KR1 next weekend. We do have plenty of other options which we are working through with WRC - so the trip to KR1 including the extra training days will proceed. Huge thanks to Stefan Kovacs and Graham Blackmore who have removed the bent axle and managed to straighten it, so that the trailer can be towed north where the rest of it can be repaired. Executive Committee The OCR Executive Committee met on Monday last week. Key things to note from that meeting are set out below. If anyone would like a copy of the minutes please contact me. Finance Sub-Committee: All KR 1 fees have now been paid in full. This makes things very much easier for us to manage financially and we really appreciate families being prompt with their payments. Thank you J Fundraising The Executive Committee agreed that we would use grant applications to support the purchase of capital items, and fundraising to support specific activities. We are currently seeking grants assistance with the purchase of a new Double and some additional ergs. Revenue raised from our current fundraising activities will go to support all rowers going to North Island Secondary Schools Rowing Championships in March 2016. Later in the season we will also fundraise for the OCRC club, and to support our club’s annual contribution to the Wellington Rowing Club. If anyone in the OCRC community has access to a mobile EFTPOS machine we could borrow during fundraising events please can you contact Serena Marston: [email protected] STAR WARS MOVIE FUNDRAISER DECEMBER 21st The rowers are organising a Star Wars Movie on Monday 21st December, 1pm at Light House in Cuba St. It’s a fundraiser where all the money raised goes directly to each rower. Tickets are $20 each with a profit of $9 per ticket. Jared will distribute the tickets on Tuesday morning at the club. The goal is for each rower to sell 2 tickets but more are available. Website Steph Clark has done a fantastic job developing a website for us. Check it out on this link - http://ocrowingclub.weebly.com The purpose of the website is to provide relevant information to current Onslow College rowers and it is also aimed as a promotional resource to encourage new Onslow College students into rowing. It is a living work in progress, so send your feedback or ideas and suggestions to Stephanie. Steph is also always keen to upload any good photos that you may have through the season, so do send these on to her. KR 1 – Karapiro Christmas Regatta Our first big regatta of the season is now only about 4 days away. Rowers are required to be at Onslow College by 7am on Thursday 10 December to help with loading up the bus. If you have any further questions about this regatta please contact the regatta co-ordinator, Olwyn Crutchely. Summer Camp An information sheet, invoices and consent forms for Summer Camp will come out in the next 1 – 2 weeks. Please keep these on your radar as people can get distracted during the build-up to Christmas. The budget for Summer Camp is likely to be approximately $410.00 per rower. If you have any queries re Summer Camp please contact me. Maadi Cup The Executive Committee confirmed that no plans for attendance at Maadi Cup in Twizel next year are being made yet. This will not be considered further until after KR 2 at the end of January 2016. |
