Kia Ora everyone
Happy New Year! Hope you had a great Christmas & New Year break. But no time to just ease into the New Year, as we head into the busy second half of the season (at least for our rowers anyway!) Dates for your Diary
Summer Camp – departs this Tues 8th Jan Be at Onslow College top quad for bus loading at 8am. Bus departs at 8.30am No travel uniform is required. Reminders:
KR2 / NICC Regatta - Parent help required urgently! KR2 Cambridge Town Cup / North Island Club Champs is only 2.5 weeks away! If you would like to come as parent help, then please let Stephanie know asap. We currently still need another couple of parent helpers. As usual, no experience required – all ‘training’ provided and it’s fun to do and always fab weather!
Wanganui Club and School Champs – Parent help required And following closely behind KR2 is Wanganui Champs. If you want to help at this easy weekend regatta, then let Stephanie know.
Raffle Fundraiser at 1841 Thanks to everyone for doing the raffle fundraiser at 1841. We are slowly building up our NISSC bus fund and I’m sure everyone agrees that this is a nice easy way to raise funds. We have had some feedback from the Owner of 1841 requesting a bit more ‘smoothing out’ of our operation. So please see the attached Raffle instructions again. It would be great to be able to continue this even into the off season. If you need to swap your duty or have any questions, then please contact Rachael Mora. [email protected] The raffle selling kicks off again from Jan 16th. Of note by 1841:
(Suggested to turn up at 7.10pm and tickets should be sold and drawn by 7.30pm) Coach Levy and Equipment Levy Mike our Treasurer has emailed everyone to ask for coach and equipment levies. Both have been set again to $100 each, thanks to the Book Fair fundraising efforts to keep these costs as low as possible. These costs can be paid into the rowing account prior to the end of the season. If you need to discuss any rowing costs, then contact Mike Woods: [email protected] Grants Update OCRC has been awarded just under $5000 for the purchase of a new coach safety boat. So thank you to NZCT for this money. This will be a welcome addition to our Onslow fleet. The school BOT has also given approval to proceed with an application for a grant for a new Four. This application is currently in progress with an outcome expected next month. Thanks very much to Mel Dingle for organising our grant applications. Book Storage Required from Feb 2019 The remaining books from our Book Fair which are currently stored at Ullrich, need to be moved by the end of Feb 2019 as they are renovating their offices. So we need to find another storage location. If you have storage to offer or know of someone we can contact, then please let Matt Seymour know: [email protected] Otherwise everyone can keep an eye out for vacant or barely used buildings and try and find out who owns it. This is Deidre’s recipe for managing to get free storage in the past! A last resort is that we can split the books around to everyone to store some. Availability for camps and regattas If you are not available for any of the season camps and regattas, then please let your coach and squad manager know. See the list of camps and regattas on the website: https://ocrowingclub.weebly.com/regattas--camps.html Social Media If you are using social media (Instagram, Facebook etc) to publically post rowing photos and you are posting the professional photos, then please try to remember to credit the photo to the photographer. A lot of the professional pics come from Rowing Celebration and he has in the past contacted us to remind us of crediting his photos. Simply state ‘Photo by xxx’. If you have unofficial group chats which are also publically accessible with any reference to OC Rowing, Onslow College, WRC, coaches etc, then please remember to be mindful of language used and the post content. Rowit - http://rowit.nz/ This is a great site for parents to keep in touch with the live results while the students are away at regattas. View the Day Sheet for race events, times and results. Rowers can also check their race entries here. New members and those not yet signed up, should ask to be added to the 'Onslow College Rowing' Facebook page. This is a good way of a keeping up with reminder notices for regatta trips and events, as well as photos and other things happening with the club. Finally, have a great summer camp, it looks like the sun will be shining! Nga mihi Stephanie www.ocrowingclub.weebly.com
