Kia Ora everyone
We are finally heading to our first major regatta and time to put all the good training to use! This is the busy part of the season as we head into the championship regattas, so rowing will take up all your weekends, but it is only for the next 5-odd weeks (a bit longer for those going to Maadi). And you will be super fit for winter sports trials when school goes back. NIRC Vax Pass and ID Remember to bring your Vaccine pass and student ID with you to regatta and carry it with you in your day bag each day at the lake. You will need it to scan in daily and there may be spot checks including requiring proof of ID. Karapiro Rowing recommend bringing a printed copy of your vaccine pass as well as it being on your phone. NIRC accommodation Just a reminder that we are not staying at the Raceway for this trip, we are staying elsewhere, at Campernwray, just outside Leamington. Unfortunately, they do have the same rules as Top 10 did, they are not permitting day visitors to their premises due to Covid rules. Wifi Info from Campernwray: We do have WIFI available on a voucher system. We can provide a stack of vouchers on arrival, and you can pay for what you use. Being in a rural location, we are on the best possible Rural Wireless Broadband. The speed is not fantastic, so does not support multiple users attempting video streaming. The rates are: 256MB for $1.50, 1GB for $5, 2GB for $8, and 4GB for $12 Sleeping gear: We will be staying in 3 or 4 bed cabins with ensuites. You need to bring your own sleeping bag, pillow, towel and a communal hand towel for your cabin group. (Everyone bring one, then you will have enough) Maadi Selection The season calendar and the Maadi selection process is summarised below. It is also found here. https://ocrowingclub.weebly.com/regattas--camps.html (scroll to the bottom of the page) The New Zealand Secondary School Champs (Maadi) is being held at Lake Ruataniwha in Twizel. Travel will be between Saturday 26 March and Sunday 3 April. Only a select number of rowers and coxswains will attend where their crews are likely to make an A or B final. The selection process is as follows.
Delay for payments via school accounts The school is currently changing their student management system, therefore you may have encountered problems trying to access it and noted that the NIRC payment has not been loaded yet. Apparently, we will not be able to use it to pay until the end of next week. So please check again later to pay for any outstanding trips and the OCRC subs. Book Fair Please note the dates above. We will run the book fair on one of these dates. They do coincide with Rua training sessions, but we will make it work as much as possible. We may have to rely on the parents more than the rowers, so thank you in advance! The Book Fair team will be in touch soon. Cross over of sport seasons As school starts up again and a new season of summer sport kicks off and winter sports trials begin. Please remember the school policy to complete your commitments to your current season sport especially when heading into National tournaments. If there are other sport trainings that will clash with rowing, then your commitment should be to rowing. If there are other sport trials, then please talk to the selectors and your coach to discuss options. Start up of 1841 raffle This has kicked off again after a long covid break. Please ensure you carry out your allocated raffle duty. An email was sent the other day with a roster. Thank you. Professional photography FYI. We have a professional photographer who will be taking photos of our crews at NIRC, NISSC and Maadi.
